Why Total Wellness of NJ?
What makes Total Wellness of NJ different? Our philosophy is simple and holistic. We are pleased to have helped so many people achieve a better overall quality of life over the years, and that is what drives us into the future.
Dr. Tami HartmanEven as a young child, I can remember being constantly fearful of becoming ill. Though that fear itself may have been an unhealthy one, it did lead me to be very conscious of keeping my body healthy. And, as I grew older, I became more interested in finding ways to manage my health and prevent illness naturally. Several members of my family had extremely positive experiences with chiropractic care, and I was intrigued by the concept behind the practice: that the body possesses an innate ability to heal itself.
Chiropractic care, in and of itself, does not treat conditions. Instead, it removes blockages that prevent the mind and body from communicating effectively and working optimally. When these pathways are clear, the body naturally heals itself and calms overactive nerves and systems. Through chiropractic care, I learned, people can become and stay healthy without surgical or pharmaceutical intervention. I love that chiropractic care enables individuals to take control of their health and their lives, and I became a licensed chiropractor myself in 1997 after attending Chiropractic College in Atlanta.
My brother, Dr. Bret, became a chiropractor as well, and we decided to practice together. Total Wellness of New Jersey is extremely family oriented and we welcome people of all ages with all types of health concerns. We take pride in our office and we continually strive to make sure that everyone enjoys a friendly, pleasant, and comfortable visit.
At Total Wellness of NJ, we know that it’s easier to stay well than to get well. We are here to inspire and empower people to live healthier lives through the principles of chiropractic care and other lifestyle changes.
Here at Total Wellness of NJ, I focus on family wellness–especially pediatrics, pregnancy, fertility, and preconception. I’m a certified Holistic Health Counselor (the American Academy of Drugless Practitioners) and a past board member of the Association of New Jersey Chiropractors. In addition, I’m an active member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and the Holistic Pediatric Association.
My vision is to create a healthier world, one family at a time, and I’m committed to helping families reach their health goals without an over-reliance on medications. Every day, I have the privilege of hearing my patients tell me how their lives have changed because of the chiropractic care they’ve received at Total Wellness of New Jersey. There’s no greater feeling in the world than that!

Dr. Bret HartmanAt Total Wellness of New Jersey, we have two main goals when we first meet a patient. The first is to find the root cause of the patient’s problem and to naturally help correct that problem through chiropractic care. The second is to educate, motivate, and inspire, promoting the wellness lifestyle and its role of achieving optimal health and peak performance.
Chiropractic isn’t just something I believe in because of its powerful effects on my patients. It’s also had a major impact on my own health. From an early age, I was allergic to both cats and dogs. I would also get sick several times a year. In 1998, I started getting weekly adjustments, and since then my immune function has tremendously increased. I no longer have allergies and I rarely get sick.
My beliefs form the foundation for how my wife and I raise our two children as well. Both of our children were born at home and breastfed through their first birthdays, and today, they remain completely drug-free. But my passion for holistic, natural wellness does not mean that I believe medications and traditional forms of medicine are completely unnecessary. On the contrary, there are many situations in which patients need life-saving drugs and therapies.
However, I firmly believe that our country has developed a staggering over-reliance on pharmaceuticals, when alternative, drug-free health management techniques can produce the same–or better–results. Medical patients are, far too often, uninformed about these alternative approaches. Therefore, I strongly support and advocate for more medical freedom and informed choice, as I feel that these are the keys to combating our country’s massive health crisis.
My vision for Total Wellness of NJ is for us to be an integral part of helping to raise the next generation to live long, healthy lives without an over-reliance on pharmaceutical medications. I work to help my patients and the community better understand both traditional healthcare and drug-free, alternative healthcare so that they can make educated, fully informed choices about their health. For me, the best part of being a chiropractor is having a chance to dramatically change my patients’ lives for the better.
I received my Bachelor’s degree from Pace University before going on to obtain my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life University. I specialize in working with children, pregnant women, and families and am certified in the Webster Technique. In addition, I maintain active memberships in the Association of New Jersey Chiropractors (ANJC) and the International Chiropractic Pediatrics Association (ICPA). When I’m not working directly with patients, I enjoy promoting the wellness lifestyle through targeted advocacy efforts and by offering educational workshops on natural health, nutrition, and immunity. When I’m not working, I love spending time with my wife, Teresa, and our two young children, as well as watching football and playing golf.
